Legal
Terms of Use
These terms govern your use of Nori, the Git client for Mac, and of meetnori.app. In short:
- You can try Nori free for 14 days, without a card. Nothing converts to a paid licence without your explicit choice.
- A licence is a single payment, never expires, works on up to two of your Macs and includes every update. There is nothing to renew.
- Nori runs the Git commands you ask for on your repositories, and some of them rewrite history. Keep backups.
- If you are a consumer, nothing here takes away the rights the law gives you.
Who provides Nori
Nori and meetnori.app are provided by Quentin Hermiteau, a sole proprietor (entrepreneur individuel) established in France (“we”, “us”), whose details are in the Legal Notice. You can reach us at [email protected], in English or French.
These terms are an agreement between you and us. By downloading, installing or using Nori, you accept them; if you start a trial or activate a licence, the app asks you to accept them explicitly. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data.
Your licence to use Nori
Nori is licensed, not sold. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive licence to install and use Nori on Macs you own or control, for your own work, personal or professional, under these terms. The licence is not transferable, except where the law allows a transfer. We and our licensors keep all other rights in Nori, its name and its logo.
Trials and paid licences
Nori offers a free trial and a paid licence, under these rules:
- Trial. 14 days of full access, without a payment method, started from the app after verifying your email address and your Mac. One trial per person and per Mac: neither can start another for three years after the trial ends. When a trial ends without a purchase, Nori switches to read-only mode.
- Perpetual licence. A single payment, at the price shown at checkout. Your licence never expires and is never billed again. It is for one person, who may activate it on up to two of their own Macs at the same time and release any of them at any time, from the app or the account space.
- Updates. A licence includes every Nori version released after your purchase, at no extra cost; there is nothing to renew. Should we ever stop developing Nori, you keep using the versions you have.
- Online checks. Starting a trial or activating a licence requires an internet connection, and Nori confirms your trial or licence with our licensing service from time to time. If it cannot do so for an extended period, Nori may switch to read-only mode until the check succeeds.
- Read-only mode. You can still open repositories, browse history and diffs, search, and finish or abort a Git operation already in progress. Nori stops running Git commands that change your repositories or contact your remotes. It never deletes or alters your repositories.
Prices are in US dollars and include taxes; the checkout may show the equivalent in your currency. A price change applies only to purchases made after it takes effect and never affects a licence you already own.
Purchases through Lemon Squeezy
Licences are sold by our reseller Lemon Squeezy, which acts as merchant of record: it is the seller of the transaction, presents the order and its price before you pay, processes your payment, collects and remits taxes, issues your receipt and invoice, and handles refunds and payment disputes. Lemon Squeezy’s buyer terms apply to the sale; these terms apply to your use of Nori. We never see your card details. After payment, your licence key is shown on a secure page and stays available in the account space.
Right of withdrawal and refunds
If you are a consumer in the European Union, you normally have 14 days from a purchase to withdraw from it without giving a reason.
A licence is digital content supplied immediately: your licence key is delivered as soon as the payment succeeds. If, at checkout, you expressly asked for immediate supply and acknowledged that you would therefore lose your right of withdrawal, that right ends when the supply begins (article L221-28 of the French Consumer Code). Otherwise, you may withdraw within 14 days of the purchase by writing to [email protected] or to Lemon Squeezy. You will then be refunded in full through Lemon Squeezy, with the payment method you used, without undue delay and within 14 days at the latest.
Beyond that right and the legal guarantee below, refunds are decided case by case, for example after a billing error or a serious delivery problem, and Lemon Squeezy, as seller, has the final say. A full refund of a licence revokes it and Nori switches to read-only mode. The trial lets you try all of Nori before you buy.
What you may not do
You may not:
- copy, sell, rent, lend, sublicense or redistribute Nori, or offer it to others as a service; to share Nori, share the link to meetnori.app;
- share your licence key with other people, or use it beyond its two-Mac allowance;
- bypass, disable or tamper with licensing, update signatures or other technical protections;
- decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer Nori, except to the extent the law expressly allows it, for example for interoperability under article L122-6-1 of the French Intellectual Property Code;
- remove copyright, licence or attribution notices;
- use Nori or meetnori.app to break the law or to attack our services.
Open-source components
Nori includes open-source software. Each component is covered by its own licence, whose notice appears in About Nori. Those licences govern the components they cover and take precedence over these terms for them.
Your repositories and your data
Nori runs Git on your behalf, with your own Git installation, configuration and credentials. You remain responsible for your repositories, your remotes, your credentials, and the content you commit, push or publish.
Some actions you can ask Nori to perform are destructive by nature: discarding changes, resetting, rebasing, amending or otherwise rewriting history, deleting branches, tags or stashes, resolving conflicts, and force pushing, which can overwrite work on a remote. Nori keeps local undo snapshots of some of these actions for 30 days, but they are not backups. Keep regular backups and remote copies of any work you care about. Git hooks configured in your repositories run as they would in a terminal.
Third-party services
Nori works with services you choose and that we do not control: your Git hosts; GitHub, GitLab and Cursor for Reviews; and AI tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or Cursor for generated text. You use them with your own accounts, under their own terms and privacy policies, and you are responsible for complying with those terms. Nori sends them content only when you use the corresponding feature. Text generated by AI tools can be wrong or incomplete: review it before you commit or publish it. We are not responsible for these services, their availability, or what they do with your content.
Updates
Nori checks for new versions once a day by default; you can turn this off in Settings ▸ Updates. An update is installed only after you confirm. Updates may add, change or remove features.
If you hold a paid licence and an update would noticeably reduce your access to Nori or its use, we will tell you clearly beforehand. You can then keep the version you have, since no update is forced on you, and you keep any other right the law gives you.
Legal guarantee of conformity and disclaimer
If you are a consumer and have paid for a licence, Nori must conform to the contract, and you benefit free of charge from the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content (articles L224-25-12 to L224-25-26 of the French Consumer Code, or the equivalent rules of the country where you live). In particular:
- a lack of conformity that exists when Nori is supplied is covered if it appears within two years of supply; one that appears within twelve months is presumed to have existed at supply;
- you receive the updates, including security updates, needed to keep Nori in conformity;
- you can ask for Nori to be brought into conformity at no cost; if that is impossible, is not done within a reasonable time or the defect is serious, you can obtain a price reduction or end the contract and be refunded.
To use this guarantee, write to [email protected]. We fix Nori; price reductions and refunds are paid through Lemon Squeezy, the seller. These terms do not limit those rights.
Otherwise, and to the extent the law allows, Nori and meetnori.app are provided “as is” and “as available”, without any warranty, express or implied, including of fitness for a particular purpose, of uninterrupted or error-free operation, or that Nori will suit your repositories or workflow. This applies in particular to Nori during a free trial.
Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that the law does not allow to be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury, fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or your rights as a consumer.
If you are a consumer, we are liable under the law for damage caused by our failure to perform these terms.
If you use Nori for business purposes, then to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect loss, including loss of profit, revenue or business, and our total liability for all claims is limited to the amount you paid for Nori in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using Nori at any time by uninstalling it.
We may suspend or terminate your licence, after notice where possible, if you seriously breach these terms, for example by sharing or reselling licence keys or bypassing licensing. If a licence key is compromised, we may suspend it immediately as a security measure until the incident is resolved; this does not change your purchase. A licence also ends if its purchase is fully refunded or reversed through a chargeback.
When a licence is suspended or ends, Nori switches to read-only mode. The sections on restrictions, liability and disputes continue to apply after these terms end.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we introduce paid licences or when the law changes. Each version has its own identifier and effective date, shown at the top. We announce material changes at least 30 days in advance on this site and, if you have a trial or licence, by email, and the app then asks you to accept the new version; a change required by law or needed urgently for security is announced as soon as possible instead. Changes never apply retroactively to a purchase: the price you paid, the perpetual nature of your licence, the number of Macs and the updates it includes stay as they were.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer living in another country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the law of that country.
If something goes wrong, please write to [email protected] first; most problems can be solved that way. If you are a consumer and our answer does not resolve your complaint, you may refer the dispute free of charge to a consumer mediator, within one year of your written complaint to us. The name, website and contact details of the consumer mediator we designate will be published here before paid licences are offered.
Failing an amicable solution, a consumer may bring proceedings before the courts of the place where they live or any other court with jurisdiction under the law. If you use Nori for business purposes, disputes fall within the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent French courts.
General
If a provision of these terms is held invalid, the rest remains in force. Not enforcing a provision does not waive it. These terms are published in French and in English under the same version identifier; if the two versions differ, the French version prevails.
