Git client for Mac
A native Git client for Mac.
Nori for Mac is written in Swift, with SwiftUI and AppKit, for Apple silicon. It runs the Git already on your Mac, opens the repositories you already have, and stays light enough to keep open all day beside your editor and your coding agents. It is free on public and private repositories, with no account.
Built for the Mac, not wrapped for it
The interface is SwiftUI and AppKit. Diffs render in the system’s own web view, the one Safari uses, so Nori bundles no browser engine and no Electron. The download is about 16 MB and the app takes about 41 MB once installed.
On our test Mac, an Apple M4 Pro, Nori held 72 to 97 MB of memory at rest with a large repository open and 0.1 % of one core while idle (measured 28 October 2026, Nori 1.14.0). The other clients measured the same way, and how, are on the comparison page.
What your Mac needs
An Apple silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later. Intel Macs are not supported: the app is built for arm64 only.
Git 2.36 or later. Nori does not bundle Git; it runs /usr/bin/git, which macOS provides with the Command Line Tools. If Git is missing or too old, install them with:
xcode-select --installGit and its hooks get your login shell’s PATH, proxies and SSH agent, so tools installed with Homebrew, nvm, volta, asdf, mise or fnm resolve as they do in Terminal.
Install and update
Open the disk image and drag Nori to Applications. Nori is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS only asks once to confirm that it came from the internet. Download Nori for Mac.
Updates come through Sparkle: Nori checks once a day, shows the release notes, and installs only when you choose to. Every release is listed in the release notes.
Mac habits it keeps
- Mac shortcuts throughout:
⌘Ffor the command palette,⌘Zto undo the last Git operation,⌥⌘Zfor every operation of the last 30 days,⌘⇧Bfor blame. - Open a file at the line you were reading in Xcode, VS Code, Cursor, Zed, Sublime Text, Nova, BBEdit or a JetBrains IDE.
- Light and dark appearance, VoiceOver labels, and interface zoom from 80 to 150 %.
- Licence, undo journal and review data stay in
~/Library/Application Support/Nori; undo snapshots live outside your repositories, so no push sends them.
The same Nori on every system
Nori also runs on Windows and Linux, with the same features:
- The commit graph, drag-and-drop merge, rebase and cherry-pick, and interactive rebase.
- Staging by file, folder, hunk or single line, and the three-way merge conflict resolver.
- Undo after a commit, a branch deletion, a stash drop or a discard, with 30 days of operations.
- History search, blame, file history and the reflog.
- Optional AI through the agent CLI you already use (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor), with no API key.
- With Pro: GitHub pull request and GitLab merge request reviews, CI checks and issues. One licence covers two devices, whichever systems they run.
Other Git clients on the Mac
Tower, Fork, Sourcetree, GitHub Desktop, GitKraken and Sublime Merge all run on the Mac. Tower and Fork are native too; GitKraken and GitHub Desktop are built on Electron. If you need an Intel Mac, GitKraken documents support for both Intel and Apple silicon. Each comparison lists its sources and says where the other app is the better choice:
